Wrote and sent a message but it hasn't appeared!? To repeat; site seems user-friendly, though sometimes when going back I get the internet time-out message. Presumably this is a clitch? Design and layout is excellent: less cluttered and clearer. However, the new site does make the FC banner - particularly the type-face -dated. I also like the fact that whenyou open the new site it defaults to full size (unless this is something I've inadvertently set my PC up to do). Profile: why is it necessary to have date of birth? Some might object.

Reference DoB: as a lecturer I understand, but don't necessarly agree with, recent and sometimes excessive politically correct legislation. Considering FC probably does have a range of adult, kids and adults who are still kids (I like that one!), it might be worth checking whether DoB is necessary from a legal standpoint (protection of minors etc). Unfortunately, there have been a number of occasions when less than appropriate language has been used on the open forums, even though the writer has tried to cover it up by the use of asterisks! Now I need to get on with other things, but I'll be returning later! In logging off let me repeat: the layout is very good. A good example of design being used to support the function and purpose of the site, including the base colour (which aids legibility), rather than the other way around. If you were responsible for the design Lee, well done.

Well at the moment, I am enjoying the feedback so far. Thanks to all of you especially Matt for trying to break the forum This is the level that I tried to acheive with the current FC Forum. Still all the other bits to add on, and then we await the live activation.

At the moment, the layout in my opinion is the best i have seen for any forum. Everything so far looks good.

One other thing, what will happen to the older forum, will there be an option to have it in the background for reference of say, frequencies, callsigns, serials or whatever a member wishes? Or will it be gone forever?

Well it would be good to have the old forum as a locked reference point.
If we could transfer the data over, that would make things alot easier for everyone. But Rick will make an announcement.

Hello everyone.I feel like i am in the Matrix lol.And i have bounced into another dimension.
So far so good.I have had a good look around and checked colours and looked at postings so far all is good.
The layout has taken a good step forward and is very pleasing on the eye and is easy to navigate.
As you can see even the brightest colours are ok.

Ok at the moment IE8 will not display the Reply text box in it's proper place.
It overlaps all the functions below the box.

Just one thing I dont like - when people upload an avatar ie pushes down the depth of the whole post. On the previous version you could 'see' so much more of the actual post content. It just seems like a lot of screen wastage and if jumping up and down between posts it takes alot more scrolling. Can the user profile info be modified in any way? Like squeeze up the post section and have avatar and profile into side by side instead of one on top of the other? Just another nitpicky thought!

If I had the functionality to change it, but in this package you are given an ambundance of predefinded templates and this is the only template that is close to the former forum. I could revert back to phpbb2 but we will lose the chatroom and the formatting bar and the smilies.

Yeah I guess so - you are generally better going with new versions although Im not sure i'd use the chat features and I definitely am not a fan of smilies! You will be thinking why did you ever allow such a critic on here but sure! Its all constructive criticism i hope!

Unfortunately, the smilies are very much required on FC, as some people can read posts and may take offence. Because of how the post has been written.

It's all customisable.

It's all customisable. I think what hes saying is that with company the forum is hosted with they are not able to add there own templates, they have been given set templates and they can only choose from them and cannot modify them.
