Specialist Photo Of The Month Competiton
Welcome to the new monthly competition at Fighter Control. The main differences in the rules between the Specialist competition and the Main Competition are highlighted in red below -
1. One entry per user, which can have been taken at any time
2. The photograph must, for January 2009, feature a 'Historic RAF jet' - I guess the criteria here is any jet that has seen RAF service, but is no longer in service
3. Photo must be taken by the user themselves (or another family user who is unable to post their own, children for example, but please state on your entry if this is the case)
4. The winner will be voted for by the Moderating team. Moderators will not be exempt from the competition, but cannot vote for their own entry.
5. To enter simply pick your best shot fitting the category and post the image onto this thread, together with information regarding the a/c pictured, location and date etc
6. Images can be 'photo-shopped' to some extent - cropping, sharpening, brightness tweaks, colour saturation alterations are all fine. The photo must retain it's initial subject however. Do not cut and paste aircraft from other photographs you have into your entry to make it look more interesting. In addition, HDR images will no longer be allowed. If in doubt, please PM me or one of the other mods.
7. All images must be posted in line with the usual FC posting rules (Rules Clicky)
8. Competitions will remain open until 23.59 on the first day of the following month - so you will have 24 hours into the next month to post. Hopefully this will allow anyone with a prize shot taken late on the last day of the month to enter.
9. The winner will usually be posted within 72 hours of the competition closing
10. The rules may be subject to change, and these will be posted on this thread.
11. The decision of the Moderating team is final, but let's keep this nice and friendly and see some cracking shots
No prizes for this one I'm afraid, other than the glory! However, your photo's will be added to the 'Hall of Fame'
So get your shots out and post away!

Only shot immediately to hand is this scan of an 8" x 6" print of 23 Squadron Phantom FGR.2 XV401/F taken at Mount Pleasant, Falkland Islands during Exercise Fire Focus in March 1988.

21/01/2006 - F/9 ISO 100 1/400sec
Taken on the way to Red Flag in Jan 2006 on the third leg of the trail as we passed over Chicago. We had started the trip with three of them but had to turn back on our first attempt at the 2nd leg from the Azores when one of the Jags declared a mayday in the middle of the Atlantic... all very exciting and we were all very glad to get back on the ground. The jet stayed in the Azores (Lajes) and we pressed on with just the two a couple of days later.

Terry - I think I would have started to do a runner at that point - but looking at it I'm not sure which direction I would have picked  .
Cracking picture though, and pleased they were all ok.
