New Coningsby Lightning???

A mate of mine was passing Coningsby today and saw this out side 29 sqdrn buildings, any body know where it's come from or going for that matter. We are under the assumption that it can't be a new gate guard as they already have 3.

I'm sure i can remember reading something ages ago regarding another Lightning being a gate guard not sure whether it was 29Sqn or not though.....also seem to remember reading that it was an F6 but was going to be done as an F3 with the small fuel tank ( as seen in the pic you posted)

Thats because 29 never flew F6's, believe its being 'doctored' to more closely match the mark flown by the Sqn.

29 Sqn was the shortest lived Lightning unit and only ever operated F.3s and T.5s. Hence the reason its had an small ventral tank for an F.3 refitted, as per Fathers posting.

And only the pre production aircraft and the F.1/F.1A/F.2 and T.4s had the rounded fins for the recorded so no they don't need an angle grinder on it last lightning..
