I was staying just outside Bridlington last week, and most mornings there was a pair of Chinooks buzzing [thumping ?] around, also what looked like some form of naval vessel anchored offshore, Thursday morning whilst walking the dog the 2 Chinooks appeared to be landing.....I say landing as they were really close to the water but I could'nt tell if they were actually touching it because they were a good way off [there were also a number of small motor boats next to them...marines ?].
I should know better really but I hate to admit it but my camera was back in the caravan, so after a mad dash with the dog, got me camera, ran back to the beach to find the 2 choppers settled on the beach at Brid, after about 20 minutes they took off again & headed inland. They returned at 8.30pm & were doing whatever all over again in the pitch dark till 10.00pm.
Anybody got any ideas what was going on ?
Sorry for the grainy pics.....a combination of high iso and a large crop

Your answer may be here - http://www.singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/bridlington - looks like some interesting action was taking place and definitely a case of being in hte right place at the right time! Amazing low wave top flying by the Chinook by the look of it and wish I had been there to take photos too.

excellent ! thanks catkins, I could really kick myself for not having my camera with me from the start, espicially as an old guy who was stood near me said that as soon as I went for it, one came and hovered about 2 feet above the water not 100 yards from where I was stood....

This was part of Ex Chameleon (SF). Also involved drops from C-130's along with HMS Ocean and another vessel (SF training ship). Nice catch. I was trying to get up there for this but work got in the way.
