Just thought I'd let members know about this series of books.

Although not cheap I've just got the 1939 - 40 one as my Great Uncle is mentioned.

He was sadly killed in an 88 Sqn Fairy Battle over France in 1940. His aircraft was shot down near Sedan in France whilst attempting to stop the German advance.

The books list individual aircraft losses for the subject year. Each entry aims to list aircraft type, serial number, operating Squadron and a brief reason for the aircrafts loss. The majority of entries also list the fate of the operating crew.

Here's a link to the books although this is in no way an advert but simply for information.

A great series and very useful to historical researchers. Unfortunately, the whole series is a very long volume - really brings it home exactly how heavy our losses were.

Sounds an interesting book, my late Grandfather lost his best friend over France in 1942 in a Lancaster, i wonder if its mentioned. I will have to keep a look out for that book.

Thanks
