Point of interest, Jazz flight mentioned on London Mil that they're spending 10 days at Mildenhall. Maybe that is some indication of how long they're staying at Coningsby too.

Cheers Kevin. One slight correction Milky. The last one to land was 86-0164. (86-0186 is an F-15E). Also, 86-0156 has 2 kill stars below the cockpit and 86-0159 has 1 kill star. Dinger.

In response to seeker 33 re spectators, I managed to park in the main parking area ( burger van ) about ten minutes before the first pair arrived - timing!!. Although it was nearly full. Walked up to the mound for the next two and there were about ten people there. I was expecting a lot more. Richard

Exciting! As long as the winds are Easterly then there shouldn't be many problems. Easterlies are now being predicted right up to Thursday next week. Good job too, as you can imagine the potential for parking problems if 25 was in use all week!

The guys in the car park were spot on when they said 6 were due in yesterday. I assume therefore they're also spot on when they say 2 more are due in on Monday.

Nice bit of brinkmanship from the 493rd sending in the MiG killers first. 86-0156 led 86-0159 into the HAS area.
Some background just in case the question arises if images are posted.
All three MiG-29 kill stars are from 1999 over Yugoslavia.
86-0156 carries two stars and has a unique air-to-air kill. Captain Hwang on the 26th March 1999 became the first pilot to single handedly and simultaneously destroy two enemy aircraft during a single intercept using radar guided missiles. The MiG-29s,serials 18113 and 18114, came down in Bosnia. Major Peric survived and escaped and evaded back to Serbia. Sadly his wingman, Lieutenant Radosavljevic, was killed.

Link to audio of the engagement as recorded by a Hungarian radio enthusiast. Captain Hwang was callsign Dirk-1 and his wingman, Captain McMurray was Dirk-2. The audio used to be available on the internet on its own, but the only recording that I can find now is in the background of this flight sim video.

86-0159 carries a single MiG-29 kill from the 1999 Yugoslav conflict. Captain Showers on the 24th March 1999 shot down a Yugoslav MiG-29, serial 18111. The Serbian MiG-29 pilot, Major Nikolic, ejected successfully.
The 493rd did have another MiG killer from the conflict - serial 86-0169. Lt. Col. Rodriguez on the 24th March 1999 downed Major Arizanov flying MiG-29 serial 18112. Major Arizanov ejected successfully. 86-0169 crashed in Scotland during 2001. TJ
