heard this term used alot at mildenhall.i know that pax means passengers but what does the 'space a' part mean.

space available, bit like going standby.

To expand on that, the US military has a great system whereby its off duty and retired personnel can travel on their passenger aircraft for free around the world providing there are seats available (and excluding war zones of course!).
As stated above, such passengers are known as "Space Available Passengers", commonly shortened to "Space A Pax".
